Building Brighter Futures: Comprehensive Kit Distribution in Kabul Schools

Save the Children, with support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Germany (BMZ), initiated a programme to enhance educational resources for children in communities with limited access to quality education. We have distributed 360 student kits, 360 hygiene kits, 360 textbooks, 28 teacher kits, and 14 classroom kits thoughtfully assembled to cater to the diverse needs of students and teachers.

The student kits, designed to facilitate daily learning activities, included various stationery items such as calligraphy pens, student bags, pencil sharpeners, erasers, notebooks for both lined and drawing purposes, pencils, colored pencils, rulers, ball pens, and carton boxes for storage. Additionally, hygiene kits were provided containing towels, nail cutters, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, combs, Vaseline, and carton boxes to ensure that children's personal care needs were addressed.

The textbooks distributed covered a wide range of subjects, including religious studies (Quran/Tajweed), Islamic insights, local languages (Pashto, Dari), English, mathematics, science, social studies, art, and handwriting. These materials are essential for a well-rounded education, allowing students to explore various fields of knowledge.

Teacher kits included items to assist educators in their teaching routines, such as white paper reams, flip charts, writing instruments, erasers, rulers, glue, teaching plan books, lined notebooks, colored pencils, permanent markers, board erasers, and carton boxes. Additionally, specialized items like geometry sets, magnifying glasses, water bottles, umbrellas, and calculators were provided to support a dynamic teaching environment.

Classroom kits were also distributed, containing essential items for maintaining an organized and conducive learning space. These included attendance sheets, student result cards, tissue paper, chalk, whiteboard markers and ink, board erasers, carpets, staples, waste baskets, brooms, batteries, soap, foam, and storage boxes.

By equipping students and teachers with these resources, we are significantly contributing to improving educational experiences for children who might not otherwise have such opportunities. The impact of this distribution is likely to be far-reaching, supporting the daily routines of students and teachers and fostering an environment where reading and writing can flourish.

Sima*, 11, said: “It has been three days since I started sixth grade, and I feel immensely happy. Being in sixth grade means going one step higher and getting ready to learn new things. Today, your office [Save the Children] provided us with pens, pencils, soap, shampoo, books, and so many other things. I feel very happy for receiving them and will try harder to learn things.”
