With funding from the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), Save the Children trained 150 Water User Committees (WUCs) members in two districts on essential skills in We also conducted two-day training workshops to establish and empower WUCs to manage and maintain water points in their villages, which Save the Children rehabilitated or constructed.

The training sessions focused on critical aspects of water management, including safety protocols, hygiene promotion, operational roles, and hand pump rehabilitation techniques. Participants gained the practical knowledge and skills necessary to maintain water points and address real-world challenges effectively.  After these training sessions, WUC members acquired skills and can now independently address water supply gaps, ensuring uninterrupted access to their villages.

By the end of the training, several water points were successfully rehabilitated, demonstrating the tangible impact of community-driven initiatives. To support participation, each attendee received financial assistance covering transportation and meal expenses, totalling 1700 AFN (23.91 USD) per participant.

Khan Aqa*, a 65-year-old WUC member, expressed, "We are happy that Save the Children rehabilitated and constructed water points for our community. Previously, we struggled to collect water from other villages, but now we have water in our community. These training sessions were very important as we learned how to maintain our water supply for long-term use."
