Save the Children mobilized aid for flood-affected families in 48 hours

Save the Children's emergency response team has been actively responding within 48 hours (about 2 days) of Baghlan flash food. Our efforts include two Clinic on Wheels staffed with male and female physicians, midwives, and nutrition nurses. Mental health and psychosocial support counsellors are providing services to flood-affected communities experiencing severe trauma symptoms. Daily water trucking operations continue, delivering almost 50,000 litres of drinking water to the affected areas every day. One Mobile Child-Friendly Space (CFS) has also been deployed to reach four affected villages, where child protection awareness sessions are conducted and a safe space for children to play and learn.

Our comprehensive response includes direct and local partner assistance. We reached 811 households with cash assistance, 715 households with Non-Food Item distributions (including kitchen stuff, blankets for adults and children, gas slander, children's clothes and shoes, etc.),  950,000 litres of water, healthcare and nutrition services to 8,292 individuals, and support for over 27,000 children across all interventions.

  • Aid for the flood-affected families in Kandahar

In addition to the Baghlan flash flood, Save the Children responded to the recent floods in Kandahar province that impacted numerous families. To determine the critical needs of the affected families, humanitarian agencies, including Save the Children, conducted a joint needs assessment. ad their homes destroyed or damaged and were identified for humanitarian assistance.

Following the assessment, 95 out of the 114 families were found to require shelter repair tool kits that include shovels, wheelbarrows, tents, plastering trowels, etc., and the process is ongoing until all verified families receive assistance.

Samad Khan*, a 27-year-old father of five children and a farmer, stated, "I live in a mud home provided by the farm owner where I work. During the recent floods, my home partially collapsed, and I lost some of my livestock. Save the Children reached out to us and provided me with tools to repair my home."
