Life-Saving Initiatives in Balkh Province
Under the SC-Italy initiative in Balkh province, we distributed AquaTabs (water purification tablets that kill microorganisms in water to prevent waterborne diseases) and soap, along with training on their use during hygiene promotion sessions, to 600 beneficiaries. The project's objective is to implement life-saving interventions aimed at preventing morbidity and mortality among children. The community relies on water from Kanda, a local storage source in the mountains, which is biologically contaminated. The AquaTabs help to make this water hygienic.
Wahid* a social worker “Every bar of soap and AquaTab distributed by the WASH team at Save the Children is a step towards breaking the cycle of disease. It's a small act that makes a monumental difference.”
Karim*, a participant, shared his thoughts: “We now understand that soap and AquaTabs are not just necessities in our village; they are lifelines that restore hope and health. I am very happy that Save the Children has come to us, providing AquaTabs and soap, as well as training on their use during hygiene promotion sessions. We rely on water from Kanda, which is biologically contaminated. Previously, when we drank this water, we suffered from stomachaches and pain, and our children experienced diarrhoea. We did not understand the cause of our illnesses.”
