Working towards safe and inclusive education for children

Save the Children’s sponsorship program, in partnership with Help the Afghan Child (HTAC) in Sar-e-pul and Jawzjan provinces, and Just for Afghan Capacity and Knowledge (JACK) in Faryab province ran sessions for more than 3000 people on the importance of education - and to encourage parents to enroll their children in school. As part of the school improvement plan, Save the Children also trained schoolteachers and community members.

The training included:

- 2 days of positive discipline training for 179 schoolteachers

- 2 days of school safety management training for 75 Parents and Teachers Association members

- 2 days of positive parenting training for 100 parents (59 mothers and 41 fathers).

Miwais* (37), a male participant in the Positive Parenting training and a community member and parent of five children, said:

“Our village is very remote, and people have been excluded from education. After attending the positive parenting training, I am amazed by its contents. I am committed to making changes in parenting for a better future for my children. I have decided to treat my children with more love, respect, and better communication. I will focus on their education and will also share with my community the importance of positive parenting for the better future of our children. Thank you for providing this valuable training.”
