Psychosocial Support Kits Aim to Enhance Children’s Wellbeing
Save the Children has recently commenced the distribution of Psychosocial Support (PSS) kits in Jawzjan province, with funding support from the European Union. These kits include crayons, coloured pencils, softballs, picture books, building blocks, plastic cups, jigsaw puzzles, and soap for children. The distribution is aimed explicitly at Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnourished (MAM) children receiving treatment in Aqcha, Mengajik, Qarqeen, Darzab, Khaja Du Koh, Qushtapa, and Faizabad districts of Jawzjan province at the Mobile Health and Nutrition team coverage areas. Through this initiative, 225 children have received these kits. The kits aim to combat the impact of malnutrition on children's brain development by offering a diverse range of stimulating objects for play at home. Each carefully selected item serves as a tool for brain stimulation, fostering cognitive growth through engaging activities. The focus is not only on entertainment but also on promoting creativity and problem-solving skills during playtime. These kits target the improvement of fine motor skills by incorporating activities that enhance coordination and dexterity. Socialization is a key aspect, as the curated games encourage interaction with others, contributing to effective communication and the development of lasting friendships. By creating a fun and enriching environment, we go beyond addressing malnutrition to support holistic growth in both body and mind.193 kits have been distributed by December 2023.
