Promoting positive parenting and safer families

Our partner Help the Afghanistan Children (HTAC), with funding from Sida’s contribution to Save the Children's country strategic plan for Afghanistan has implemented a Safe Families program in targeted communities in Jawzjan and Sar e Pol. Each group consists of 10 males, 10 females, 10 girls, and 10 boys. The Safe Families program comprises 10 sessions with parents, 9 sessions with children and 2 sessions involving both children and parents.

The sessions play a crucial role in promoting a safe and healthy environment for children and aims to stop the physical and humiliating punishment of children in their homes, while helping fathers, mothers, and caregivers gain a better understanding of child rights. .

Shafiq* (37), a father and participant in the Safe Family sessions, said: "I used to believe that children should eat separately from adults. After this training, I now sit with my children to eat together, and they are very happy."

Marjana* (28), another participant, said : "I used to use harsh language with my children. Now, after participating in this training, I have learned how to interact with children positively. I now use loving words with my children, and they love me more than before. My children can easily share their concerns with me now because of this training."
