With funding support from the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), Save the Children established nine Community-Based Child Protection Networks (CBCPNs) in two districts of Jawzjan province. Each CBCPN group consisted of five members (male group or female group) in targeted areas. The primary objective of forming these local child protection committees was to ensure the protection and well-being of children within their communities.

The CBCPN groups have specific roles and responsibilities, including prevention, response, and strengthening understanding in the community for children who are deprived of education or have health problems, identification of vulnerable children and families, monitoring child protection issues, and serving as advocates to ensure children’s protection within the community and families. They also provide information on where children and adults can seek help if they have concerns about a child's well-being. Additionally, they encourage children to attend school, participate in social events, and share information about child rights and protection in the community.

Although establishing these groups was new to the community members, they were thrilled to be a part of the group and participated actively. CBCPN members have conducted sessions based on their training and meetings. These sessions have been held in various community settings such as mosques, during prayer times, at charity events, at mobile health and nutrition teams (MHNTs), and in child-friendly spaces (CFSs) for parents.

Monitoring has shown that the programme efforts have positively impacted people's attitudes and social behaviours. Community members are now more aware of child rights.

Farid*, a community member, shared, “After attending these sessions, our behaviour towards our children has changed at home; now we are listening to our children and valuing them.”

Shahbaz*, another member, mentioned, “I had withdrawn my son from school to work but realised the importance of education through the training sessions. I am now committed to educating my son to become a valuable member of the community in the future”.
