Improving public school infrastructure for enabling children’s access to quality learning and safe space
In Afghanistan, majority of the schools lack standard classrooms and infrastructures, which is one of the main reasons that children do not participate in schools and for those who attend the low quality of learning environment affects their learning outcomes negatively. Additionally, in harsh winter and windy hot summer seasons, children study in tents or open areas that results in diseases and increased rate of absenteeism and drop out. With an aim to enable children’s access to quality education, safe and inclusive learning environment for increased participationin school, and to improve their overall learning outcomes, Save the Children’s Sponsorship Programme improving school infrastructures. We constructed three school buildings (six classrooms in each school), boundary walls for three girls' schools, gender-segregated latrines for four schools, solar-operated wells for four schools, etc. Through this initiative, 9,402 children (5,489 girls and 3,913 boys) are benefitting from an improved learning environment in these schools.
