Essential Winter Support for Orphan Children in Kandahar to Keep Them Warm and Safe
Save the Children recently distributed winterization kits to 380 orphaned children in Kandahar in mid-February 2024. Each kit included essential items such as a blanket, coat, socks, winter hat, shoes, winter cream, winter sweatshirt, gloves, and refreshments. Many of these children come from families that cannot afford warm clothing for the winter season.
Save the Children distributed the winterization kits to ensure that all the children at the orphanage could stay warm during the winter months. Most of these children do not have family members or relatives living nearby to provide support. The orphanage staff expressed their gratitude to Save the Children for providing the children with these essential items to support them through the winter.
One of the beneficiaries, 12-year-old Shams*, says, "I am studying at this orphanage and stay here throughout the week. I leave on Thursday evenings and return on Friday evenings for school. I don't have a father or elder brother; my mother and two sisters live with my uncle. Unfortunately, my uncle cannot afford to buy jackets for us, so I have been struggling with the cold weather."
